Beanibazar is one of the largest upazilas in Sylhet district. With an area of 96 square miles, Beanibazar consists of 10 unions and one pourashabha. Unique for its role in the country’s politics, economy and culture, Beanibazar produced some of the finest sons of the soil who had made immense contributions to the nation’s struggle for independence. Expatriate Bangladeshis from Beanibazar is also playing a laudable role for the growth of national economy. Those living in the USA had formed an association called “Bangladesh Beanibazar Social and Cultural Association USA Inc.” in 1987 with a view to protecting their regional and national identity.
